A nice drink from Martin Cate at Smuggler's Cove
Well, unlike many Tiki drinks I cover on here, there's not much of a story behind the Falinum. It was created by Martin Cate of Smuggler's Cove fame in honor of Falin Minoru of Tiki Kaimuki Fine Boozing Vessels.
I'm quite fond of Smuggler's Cove's coconut cream syrup. In fact I substitute it for Coco Lopez in a lot of recipes. Once I saw that the Falinum contained both Falernum and the coconut cream syrup, well, I was in. The use of lemon juice makes for an interesting twist as well.

1 ounce lemon juice
1 ounce coconut cream syrup
1 ounce seltzer*
1/2 ounce John D. Taylor's Velvet Falernum
2 ounces aged column still rum*
dash orange bitters
Build everything in a mixing tin and flash blend for 5 seconds with 12 ounces of crushed ice using a spindle mixer. Serve in a Tiki mug sans garnish.
*Bamboo Sam's customizations: I typically use Perrier or Topo Chico for the seltzer water. For aged column still rum you can try one of several varieties to take this drink in different directions. Brugal 1888 makes for a dry yet full bodied drink, Cruzan Single barrel adds body and a longer finish, Ron Barrilito 3 star adds caramel sweetness...
