Trader Sam's Shipwreck on the Rocks

For all of you lamenting Disney's closure at the moment.

Shipwreck on the Rocks

Like many a Tiki aficionado, my fascination with all things Tiki began as a child at Disney World. As an adult, Trader Sam's (no relation) Enchanted Tiki Bar at the Polynesian is hard to beat. The menu may not be chock full of world class rums but the setting and staff are definitely world class and the drinks quite good - especially after a day spent schlepping around one of the parks. With the Covid-19 pandemic still in full swing, all of the parks (along with every other Tiki bar on the planet) are closed for the foreseeable future. As many of you have probably had to postpone trips to Trader Sam's (or are nervously counting down the days until you have to), I thought I'd go with one of the drink's from their menu; the Shipwreck on the Rocks.

Truth be told, it's basically a Whisky Smash but don't let that stop you from letting it take you to the Trader Sam's of your choice this weekend.

Shipwreck on the Rocks

  • 4 lemon wedges

  • 4-6 mint leaves

  • 1/2 ounce agave syrup

  • 2 ounces bourbon*

Place the lemon wedges and mint leaves in your mixing glass and muddle. Add the agave syrup, bourbon, and ice. Shake well and strain into Trader Sam's rum barrel mug (full of ice) or a double old fashioned glass. Garnish is a swizzle stick and mint.

*Bamboo Sam's customizations - There's really not much to change here. I prefer Maker's Mark for the bourbon but so does Trader Sam...
